Rounding Time in Reports

Here you will learn how to enable or disable time rounding in reports, how it works in TMetric and when to use it.

TMetric records every second of your working time and provides exact up-to-second data in reports. But for billing purposes, it can be useful to round time entries in reports. For example, if you charge your clients on an hourly basis. That's why TMetric supports the time rounding feature.

How to round time in reports

1. Go to Workspace in the main menu and then click Settings

2. On the General Settings page, check Round time in reports.

3. In the left-hand drop-down box, select the rounding mode: Down to nearest, To nearest, or Up to nearest.

4. In the right-hand drop-down box, select a time increment (the available values depend on the selected time format in reports).

The rounding feature works on a time-entry level, meaning that when the rounding is on, in reports, each time entry is rounded separately, and then the rounded time entries are summed up.

 Round time in reports

NoteIf a time entry is less than the minimum time increment, the time will always be rounded to this minimal time increment. For example, if you set the rounding mode to Down to nearest and the time increment to 1 hour, a 2-minute time entry will be rounded to 1 hour, and a 61-minute time entry will be rounded to 1 hour. Whereas, if you set the rounding mode to Up to nearest and the time increment to 1 hour, a 2-minute time entry will be rounded to 1 hour, and a 61-minute time entry will be rounded to 2 hours.

Another thing to note is that the rounding feature applies only to reports. The actual time entries on the Time page maintain their original state.

You can turn off the rounding for each specific report. For example, in the Detailed report, click the Turn Off Rounding button and all time entries will return to their original values only in this report.
